Upskilling Surveyors with Real Data and Real Impact
It was a pleasure to spend a full day with the talented surveying team at Redland City Council, delivering a hands-on SurvaCAD training session designed to sharpen skills and streamline workflows.
The session brought together five surveyors with varying levels of experience, but in this instance, the training was aimed primarily at entry-level users. Several participants were in the final stages of their surveyor’s registration and preparing for upcoming workplace promotions, making the day a timely investment in their professional growth.
Tailored to Real-World Projects
One of the most powerful aspects of the training was the ability to work directly with their own survey data. By basing the tasks on real projects and familiar workflows, the team could immediately see the value in the techniques being demonstrated. This approach ensured that every example was relevant, practical, and instantly applicable back in the field or office.
Practical, Hands-On Learning
The day began with an initial platform overview to familiarise everyone with SurvaCAD’s core features. From there, it was all about active participation; each surveyor worked through the tasks themselves while provided one-on-one supervision and guidance. This “learn by doing” method encouraged questions, built confidence, and made sure that new skills were retained.
Supporting Career Development
For those aiming to become registered surveyors or seeking promotions, mastering SurvaCAD’s tools can be a game-changer. The software is specifically designed to optimise cadastral survey plan creation, reduce repetitive processes, and enhance accuracy - skills that are not only valuable to the individual but also improve overall team efficiency.
Flexible Training Options
While this particular session was delivered in person, SurvaCAD training is available for both entry-level and intermediate users, and can also be conducted via video for remote customers. This flexibility means teams can access the same quality learning experience no matter where they are based.
A Collaborative, Forward-Thinking Team
The Redland City Council surveying team’s willingness to embrace new tools and approaches made for an energising and rewarding day. Special thanks to Jason Masters for inviting SurvaCAD to work with such a dedicated and forward-thinking group of professionals. Their passion for innovation and continual improvement is exactly what drives the surveying industry forward.
